Dave and I went to the Indy 500 this year and it was GREAT!
I've never been before but I discovered that I like the sound of really fast cars. They are also fun to watch, but they buzz by so fast it is hard to see them. However the sound is unlike anything I’ve heard before. You can tell by the way they sound that they are moving faster than anything else on the ground. I thought I might get bored but there was a lot to see. We saw the cars getting ready for the race, we saw Gasoline Alley, they had something that looked like a racing expo and we looked at all the different racing products they featured, we saw the “Go Daddy” girl back by the garage area (the men seemed excited to see her) and we walked around the grounds.
We even stumbled across what I consider a REAL celebrity. Tim Allen from the TV show Home Improvement was there.
He looked a little scruffy but it was definitely him. I’ve attached a few photos. One of the close up of his face and the other of me standing near the golf cart where he was seated talking to someone.
I was impressed that the food and drink prices were reasonable and they let you bring into the stands a small cooler. We decided to bring our own lunch and drinks. We didn’t buy anything at the race track except two official race programs. I was impressed that they put the programs in a plastic zip lock protector. It worked out well when it rained and it is now keeping my program in nice condition at home.
I enjoyed the day so much I would highly recommend a visit once in your lifetime to the Indy 500. Of course, I enjoyed it so much I hope to visit again next year.
